Harper Texas located just west of Fredericksburg and north of Kerrville and Hunt in Gillespie County. It’s home to about 1200 residents nestled along US Highway 290. Harper is part of its own independent school district and extends into portions of Kerr and Kimball counties. There there are three campuses, the Harper high school, the Harper middle school and Harper elementary school. It was recognized as exemplary by the Texas education agency in 2009 and 2010.
Although Harper is a smaller community, many people from larger places such as Austin and San Antonio have found Harper to be the perfect getaway, with a quiet and a slower pace of life. There are several small businesses, a lower cost of living and shorter commute to larger cities surrounding Harper. With multiple churches, locally owned businesses in great schools, Harper makes an ideal place to call home if you’re looking for that small town feel and charm.
Harper has several community events each year including children’s activities, rodeos and fundraisers. Currently, were gearing up for the Harper Christmas bazaar. Harper is home to several local businesses including the Old capstone Market featuring gourmet spices, foods and home goods. There are several grocery stores, retail shops and a library as well as a few restaurants and cafés. The Longhorn Café, Headwaters Saloon and the Ridge Marketplace are all great places to catch a burger, grab a pint or simply catch up with friends and family.
At any given time there are roughly 50 properties for sale spread out throughout the back hills and roads of Harper Texas. Lots and lands started about $10,000 with the highest priced home being between $900,000 and $1.5 million for larger lots on acreage. The median home prices between $140,000 and $180,000. If you’re looking to build your custom home there are several options anywhere from $10,000-$3 million depending on how many acres you’re looking for. Single-family homes are around $130,000 for a decent two and three bedroom floor plan between 1100 ft.² and 1500 ft.². Custom homes start at around $300,000-$500,000 and may also feature equestrian property and several acres.
