Mountain Home is located in Kerr County Texas just south of Interstate 10 along Highway 41. This unincorporated community is not quite a town but it is spread out over hundreds of acres. It does have a post office, first established in 1879 but is primarily just a small community with numerous ranches, homes and acreage surrounding the center, just off Junction Highway or Highway 27.
Mountain Home is a great location if you’re considering a ranch, equestrian property, or just several acres. Whether you’re looking for just a couple of acres to build a custom home, a few hundred acres of prime Texas Hill country acreage or large ranches such as the Morriss Ranch, a 3100 acre ranch just 45 minutes from Kerrville on the divide near Garvens Store providing a living legacy to the area’s pioneering stewardship. Several of these ranches have been in farms for over 100 years and properties range anywhere from about $600,000 to several million dollars depending on the size, condition, outbuildings and acreage. The most famous ranch is the YO Ranch as well as Real, Schreiner and Auld Ranches to name a few historical and recognizable ones.
Ranches in Mountain Home are typically at least 10 acres or more. On average you’ll find properties with 50 acres to about 150 acres priced from $300,000 to about $800,000. Larger acres of over 3000 start at least $2 million or more. At any given time there are roughly 50 to 100 properties, land and acreage for sale throughout Mountain Home and neighboring communities stretching far and wide beyond Kerr County, Edwards County and Gillespie County. In the limits of Mountain Home however there are usually less than 20 properties for sale. This prime Texas Hill country offers a variety of undeveloped land, residential property, hunting land and farms.
The smaller homes and acreage can start as low as $200,000 but still, these properties contain several acres, usually no less than 10. Most of the properties are either fully wooded or partially wooded and each one has different financing available. FHA financing may be available for several lots or land as long as they have improvement such as homes or outbuildings.
Wildlife is also prominent on many of these properties and you’re likely to find Red Stag, Axis, Hog Turkey, Fallow, and ponds with catfish or Bass. Some properties are sold as exotic game ranches with over 200 head of wildlife already present.
