The Kerrville Independent School District stretches from the borders of Fredericksburg South to Medina and East and West from about Center Point to Ingram and Mountain Home.

The school district as a whole gets a city rating of 7 out of 10. The top rated schools include the Fred Tally elementary school with a score of 8, the Daniel elementary school with a score of 8, the Nimitz elementary school with a score of 8 and the Peterson middle school with a score of 8. There are 9 public schools total in the school district. Five elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools.
Other schools are private and may be outside the KISD, including the KCJDC School, an all-male high school for grade 6 12. The Grace Academy school which is an independent, nonprofit and private Christian school serving the Kerrville Hill Country area. The Our Lady of the Hills Catholic high school, the Kerrville Disciplinary Alternative School, Foundations Academy, a pre-K through 12 grade accredited Christian school, the Notre Dame Catholic school, the Holy Cross Lutheran school, the Hill Country Seventh-day Adventist school, the St. Peter’s Episcopal school and several local day cares and learning centers.
The Kerrville Independent School District is an accredited 5- A school district featuring seven traditional campuses, one early childhood center and an academic alternative high school. The school district itself serves more than 5000 students and employees 700 people from around Kerrville and surrounding areas.
The district has earned several accomplishments including the highest possible state accountability rating at each of their campuses and at the district level. They have scored in the top percentile of Texas school districts earning their postsecondary Readiness Distinction Designation granted to only 24 school and charter districts out of over 1200 districts. The district itself has exceeded state averages on their academic assessments and earned numerous distinctive designations for academics and graduation. They’ve also earned a Superior Achievement on the school financial integrity rating system for the 13th consecutive year. This is the highest financial rating a district may earn.
Athletics is an extremely important component to the KISD educational program. They encourage participation in a variety of sports related curriculum with honor, commitment and integrity.
